Natchez Trace

Operated by the National Park Service, the Natchez Trace Parkway runs from Natchez, Mississippi to Nashville, Tennessee through Lewis County, following one of the four oldest trails in North America. Numerous wayside stops contain historical exhibits, walking trails, picnic areas and camp grounds. In Lewis County, see the historic Napier Mine area, the beautiful Buffalo River at Metal Ford, Meriwether Lewis’ grave, the site of phosphate mines at Gordonsburg, an eight-mile overlook of the Swan Valley, a forty-five foot waterfall at Fall Hollow and the trail at Devil’s Backbone State Natural Area.
